Caution

Originally, the dog of St John's is coloredblack and the initial standard accepted only black. The race arrived by the English aristocrats between 1820 and 1880, is fixed at the beginning of the XX th century, and recognized by the English Kennel Club in1903.

The first Labradors were imported into France at the end of the 19th century by aristocrats.

The Retriever Club de France was created in 1911 , for hunters.

However, the first yellow Labradors were officially recognized only in 1924 by the "Yellow Labrador club", the same fate for chocolates which were not recognized until the 1970s.

Attention , only the colors yellow (ranging from light to red fox), black, and brown (chocolate) are recognized, official, and listed in the breed standard.

Any other color is the result of a crossbreeding of races other than the Labrador, resulting in an undesirable genetic modification (of the allele) of the color, leading to the appearance of non-compliant colors such as "sylver", "charcoal" etc., puppies wearing this unofficial dress cannot be confirmed and therefore cannot claim breeding.
