Like any so-called "sporting" breed, this hunting dog will be suitable for certain types of activities (swimming, tracking, water retrieval, and research) and others much less, be careful not to offer him an activity. unsuitable.

Do not hesitate to contact your breeder who will advise you on his daily needs and according to his age.

Description and characteristics:

The Labrador is a sturdy, medium-sized dog with a robust appearance and short loins. A large skull with hazel or brown eyes gives him an intelligent look full of sweetness. Its ears are hanging and attached behind its head. His hair is short and dense, his dress is black, yellow (can vary from cream sand to fawn - red fox), or chocolate (brown), and his waterproof undercoat gives him resistance to bad weather. Its tail is one of its particularities: very large at the base, covered with thick hair, and gradually thins along the length. His chest is well let down and his ribs are well developed.

Lifestyle, behavior and character:

Good character, spectacular look, playful and docile, the Labrador is very close to his masters. His joie de vivre is infectious. It is an ideal family dog, a good playmate for children.

The Labrador is renowned as one of the most intelligent dogs with an exceptional character. (used as an assistance dog for blind people, people with reduced mobility, etc.) He also has a very good sense of smell. The Labrador is sweet, affectionate and very attached to its masters. Endowed with patience and great kindness, he is the ideal companion, adapting easily to his living environments, he willingly accepts the company of other congeners (moreover strongly recommended). He loves to play with great energy. Education (firm but gentle) will begin very early with the puppy upon his arrival so that he learns to obey, which will also strengthen the bond with his master, he will be eternally grateful to you. Naturally friendly, the Labrador shows no signs of aggression but can nevertheless be a very good guardian.

Skills :

Agile and ardent, the Labrador is officially approved as a water dog and a retrieval dog. In addition to being the ideal companion, he is also appreciated as a working or assistance dog. The Labrador was created for hunting: it is a retriever dog, especially in the marshes, because of its very good sense of smell and its soft teeth. He has an excellent visual memory as well as exceptional swimming abilities. Thanks to his ability to listen, his will, his intelligence, and his passion for water, he is appreciated by lifeguards and is also one of the water rescue dogs.

The Labrador gets its designation as a retriever because it retrieves everything.

The swimming of the Labrador is extremely silent and fast, nothing more beautiful to see than its chin making like the prow of a ship. He is very skilled at retrieving waterfowl.

Maintenance :

The Labrador retriever is prone to obesity because it is a greedy dog, and we mentioned it above: who needs daily activities. Regular exercise and a diet appropriate to your gender, size, age and activities are therefore essential to minimize problems, especially joint problems.

The Labrador does not require a binding maintenance. Regular brushing, especially during moulting, which will require more time, as it is not necessary outside of these periods.

His claws will be worn down naturally by his activities and outings, and do not necessarily have to be shortened.

The ears, on the other hand, are one of the sensitive points in the Labrador. They must therefore be cleaned and monitored regularly at the risk of becoming prone to chronic ear infections.
